About the chair for urban climate resilience

Welcome to the chair of urbane climate resilience
Welcome to the chair of urbane climate resilience ? 新万博体育下载_万博体育app【投注官网】 of Augsburg

The Chair of Urban Climate Resilience is one of ten professorships at the Centre for Climate Resilience (ZfK) at the 新万博体育下载_万博体育app【投注官网】 of Augsburg, which was founded in 2021/2022. Based on the specialist background of human geography, urban societies and the core questions of climate-resilient cities are investigated.

?

At the Chair of Urban Climate Resilience, we explore the question of how urban societies can become climate resilient. We see climate change as a symptom of a multifaceted planetary crisis, which is often expressed in public discourse with the term Anthropocene. In our view, climate resilience is a search process for society as a whole with the aim of reducing social vulnerability, increasing social adaptability and developing the potential for socio-ecological transformation.

?

The consequences of climate change will become even more severe in the future. This is because the greenhouse gases that are already in the atmosphere will continue to influence the climate for many decades to come and will primarily cause gradual changes. These include the gradual rise in the global average temperature, the melting of glaciers and rising sea levels. In order to guarantee acceptable living conditions for future generations, comprehensive climate protection measures and effective adaptation strategies to the consequences of the climate crisis are required at global, national and local level.

?

The key question for us as geographers working in the social sciences is: climate resilience for whom?

We prioritise a future-proof and sustainable approach to our living environment and the protection of vulnerable population groups.
