The FURIFLOOD project analyzes the impact of current and future flood events in West Africa in urban regions for a better understanding of future risks for humans and the environment. The 新万博体育下载_万博体育app【投注官网】 of Augsburg is involved in the FURIFLOOD project in the development of a novel database for past precipitation and runoff extremes and their statistical analysis and regionalization. In addition, stochastic methods for simulating high-resolution precipitation fields and improved statistical methods for downscaling regional climate projections are being developed. Furthermore, the 新万博体育下载_万博体育app【投注官网】 of Augsburg supports the development of a digital platform for decision-makers in West Africa and its on-site implementation. The FURIFLOOD research work is part of the WASCAL (West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) program and it is carried out in close cooperation with leading German and West African research institutions. The approaches chosen in FURIFLOOD make it possible to build up regional expertise on extreme flooding in West Africa and to implement it in the WASCAL competence center.
