Geriatric and Neuropsychiatry
Research
Our research interest focuses on the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases as well as their differentiated classification via innovative imaging diagnostic techniques. Furthermore, we investigate the influence on neurodegenerative diseases through transcranial brain stimulation methods, e.g. transcranial magnetic or direct current stimulation. Another research interest is devoted to the relatives of patients living with dementia and their affection by the diseases, also taking into account the special circumstances during the Corona pandemic. Furthermore, we aspire to better understand the relatives' sense of dignity as well as to implement and evaluate specific (group) therapeutic offers for relevant target groups.
CURRENT STUDIES
GeKo (memory cohort of the 新万博体育下载_万博体育app【投注官网】 of Augsburg)
In this open cross-sectional and longitudinal study, a dementia cohort will be established for a discriminating evaluation of clinical symptoms related to their final diagnosis as well as for examinations at annual intervals over 3 consecutive years. With the gained knowledge, we strive to improve the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases. For this, we are looking for patients with dementia in both, early and advanced, stages.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in corticobasal syndrome (CBS)
This is a funded project of the 新万博体育下载_万博体育app【投注官网】ical Faculty of the 新万博体育下载_万博体育app【投注官网】 of Augsburg. In the pathophysiologically oriented study, differences in the cortical GABA level between patients with CBS and healthy participants are identified cross-sectionally. Furter, therapeutic potential of rTMS in patients with CBS is examined based on intervention. For this, we are looking for healthy participants as well as patients diagnosed with corticobasal syndrome.
