Post-Doctoral Researcher (100 %) (m/f/d)
in the field of data ethics

in an initial fixed-term employment contract of 3 years at the earliest possible date. Employees who meet the necessary requirements are eligible for remuneration up to pay grade E 13 TV-L. The position is suitable for part-time work.

The interdisciplinary and international Institute for Ethics and History of Health in Society (IEHHS) addresses current, socially relevant medical/bioethical questions in their clinical, scientific, social and political contexts.

The appointment is part of a DFG-AHRC cooperation in the humanities between the IEHHS and the Ethox Centre (新万博体育下载_万博体育app【投注官网】 of Oxford) within the context of the project “Public benefit and public trust in the context of health data research and innovation”. The project investigates the significance of public benefit in the context of the use of health data in the digital age and its relationship to public trust. The position at the IEHHS is supervised by Prof. Dr. Ruth Horn.

Your tasks include:

  • Critical interpretive review of relevant specialist literature and public documents
  • Qualitative research in Germany and England: semi-directive interviews with healthcare professionals, experts responsible for the control of health data, members of data access committees, health data researchers and civil society groups
  • Reflexive-thematic analysis; empirical-normative analysis
  • Organising stakeholder workshops
  • Organising regular project-team meetings
  • Communicating research at interdisciplinary and public events
  • Disseminating research through relevant publications in high-impact journals and conferences
  • Assisting with the overview of the project budget
  • Providing support to the Institute: organising events, supporting research and teaching, acquiring third-party funding (assistance with coordination, communication, research, writing/editing)
  • Assisting in establishing local and international scientific cooperation and networking structures
  • Contributing to the international visibility of the Institute

Your profile:

  • a completed doctorate in a relevant field of study
  • Independence in scientific work
  • good knowledge and experience in qualitative methods
  • Knowledge of relevant ethical discussions
  • fluent English skills, both spoken and written
  • solid German skills to conduct interviews and literature review
  • very good organisational and communication skills
  • high level of teamwork and social skills
  • high willingness to perform and intrinsic motivation

Advantageous qualifications include:

an international profile, publications in peer-reviewed journals of medical, bioethics and/or public health ethics, experience in acquiring third-party funding.

The required qualifications must be demonstrated in the application documents by means of appropriate certificates.
