Key Aspects

Our core study areas comprise? the history of cultural, political and economic relations between Europe and North America. In particular, our focal point of research is based on US cultural history. Our research team conducts studies on both the history of transatlantic relations and Afro-American history, the history of social protest movements, migration history, gender studies, religious history, popular culture and ongoing developments concerning the United States. Various research activities in progress focus on the history of organisational structures and methodology in regard to the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) and its founder, Marian Wright Edelman, the commitment of white human beings and southern-born female activists on the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s as well as a research project on Bavarian women emigrating to the United States in the 19th century.
